All of them are at the best of the technique for . the caliber 83 was build in relatively small series (about 10000pcs max) The caliber 88 has the same origin as the Caliber 89 (Mark XI!): cal.89 central second, cal.83: small second. The Cal.83 is older and was not so often build as the 83/88-family.

From the beautifully-done engraving on caseback, this was a gift to a textile worker in Schaffhausen (hometown of IWC) for 26 years of "loyal service." Very cool that the retirement gift was from the local watchmaker. I know that IWC might insist on replacing all older parts to make it “like new”, which is what I would be afraid of. While there are some good write ups on the cal 83, i couldn't tell if the movement really stacks up to the 89.
This is an exceptionally rare 1940s stainless steel IWC Caliber 83 wristwatch. The timepiece has a pullout crown that sits flush against the case when pushed in, and a snap-on solid case back.
